Most of us have colonoscopies to look for inflammation, not pre-cancerous polyps, but a recent internal study of dcotor's practices found that doctors who take longer to look at your colon find more pre-cancerous more polyps than doctors who go through the test faster.  This may also mean that doctors who take more time to look at your colon would also find more inflammation and other areas of concern.  Make sure you mention this study to your doctor when you go in and ask him to look slowly.

I have had three colonoscopies in the last 6 years and my gi has removed polyps every time.  This last time he said they were pre-cancerous.  He also said it shouldn't be a problem as long as I have them removed on a regular basis (every year or so).

Ah, I remembered that someone on here was having polyps removed. I'm sure your doctor, knowing you have them already, is extra thorough with you.

I don't know why they would do a colonoscopy and not check for polyps. I think that is unconscionable.

They are checking for polyps. It's just when they move the scope slower and look harder, they tend to find more or at least have a better rate of discovery.

I guess I am older than you all and that is the very reason I have the colonscopies. After 50 you are supposed to get one. Iwaited till 65 and now have them every 2 years and they always find some polyps. I figured if I only at 3 from birth to 65 that I could go a long time without anymore but it doesn't seem to work that way as we age. Last time I had 5 and I have freinds that have 10 and 12 every couple years.
