Do you normally take a fiber supplement? If not, that may explain your nocturnal awakening with gas and bloating. It is best to ease into fiber; never start with a regular dosage. Your body needs time to adjust. Given you have Diverticulosis as well, that can add to abdominal pain. High fiber intake is key to managing Diverticulosis as well as IBS.
Docs mention that IBS can flare with stress. As this is the holiday season, it is not uncommon for us to feel stressed out. Could this be why your IBS has appeared again?
