Hello,

This is my first time on a forum so please bare with me. I was recently dx w/ IBS by my primary care doc and will see the GI tomorrow (1/2/07). I am hoping I only have IBS, not Chrones Disease or Ulcerative Colitis. All I know is that I have terrible diarhea daily, most often in the mornings, accompanied by terrible abdominal cramping. I don't know what to ear and what not to eat. I basically am not eating anything; everything is making me nauseaus. My doc started me on Bentyl which makes me tired. I'm always thirsty. And basically miserable. Does anyone have any suggestions on things I can do to help make me feel better? The Bentyl isn't working too well. I am looking forward to a colonoscopy in hopes of getting a definitive diagnosis and a quick and easy cure!!! Is that possible?

Any suggestions, advice, anything would be appreciated. My husband says it seems convenient that I am in the bathroom a lot leaving him to do things I normally do. I don't think he believes my pain is that bad. Very frustrating.

Hi Jean, welcome!  Sorry you are having a rough go of things, but we've all been there and there's lots of advice/suggestions/support you can rely on on this site.  That's good you're going to see the GI tomorrow; he will review your symptoms, but won't be able to tell you much just based on your symptoms.  Diarrhea and cramping are two of the most vague symptoms out there and can be caused by a vast array of diseases/syndromes.  So the first step is to get through the colonoscopy, which can rule out a lot.

It would be very helpful for your doctors if you keep a meticulous food diary.  Write down how much you eat, what you eat, what time you eat, etc. every day for at least a couple of weeks; also keep a symptom diary.  Sometimes it's hard to notice patterns, but keeping these diaries will be invaluable.

Keep us posted on how things go at the GI.
