I have recently had a treatment of flagyl and doxoycline(sp) for an infection that ended last Saturday and I have been having diarrhea since even during the treatment.  I took cultrelle but it had little effect and I started taking Saccharomyces boulardii yesterday too early to tell if its working and I was wondering does anyone else here take it or have takened it.  I take Welchol for my salt-bile diarrhea since my GB was removed and I was wondering if Welchol will interfer with Saccharomyces boulardii.

Or if anyone has any suggestions on how to get rid of antibiotic diarrhea please let me know.  I am going on vacation on Tuesday for a week but at this rate I might have to cancel. mad

Hi Savannah,
Welcome to HealingWell! :-)
I've never taken Flagyl or Saccharomyces (or even Welchol), so I can't really help you there. But, I can tell you that sometimes it takes a little while before the D stops. Your best bet is to keep taking mass amounts of probiotics. I've never read anything negative about mixing probiotics... Maybe you could take both Culterelle and Sacch. I'm pretty sure I've read that taking probiotics for at least 2 months after antibiotics is the way to get back on track.
Actually, lots of IBSers are on probiotics indefinitely. I am. I love them. I take 2-3 different types a day.
I hope others come on soon to give you some input. It would be a shame if you couldn't go on your vacation. Maybe you should call your doc on Monday if you're not any better.

Hi 7Lil,

Thanks for the welcome...

I hate to take antibiotics because of the antibiotic diarrhea!

I will continue to take the cultrelle and the SB probiotics and will take my welchol too.

I love probiotics..infact I have noticed a 100 percent improvement in my bowel health especially after having my GB removed!

If it keeps up get tested for C. difficile. They usually use Flagyl for that. was this an intestinal infection. Seems like using the two of them might be counterproductive.
