Hello folks,
I'm a 23 years old girl and I've had poopy problems since a good while. I'm often constipated, but recently it got worse. I noticed some mucus in my stools, especially the hard ones and it comes out by tiny bits... and they always seem to be flat. Well I THINK it's mucus. It's lots of gooey stuff, and it's brownish thanks to the area it comes from of course. I didn't have stools for a week at least... Last time I had to take a laxative because they made me swallow barium for a X-ray checkup. And I was NEARLY regular prior to that! It messed everything back up. Today I'm having lots of cramps and when I go to the bathroom it's pretty soft and comes out pretty thin... And it makes me worried. A bit... um no, a lot. I'm a bit of a paranoiac.

I did go to the doctor and I'm waiting for a gastroscopy and a colonoscopy. Not a full one, they call it a "short colonoscopy" in french. Considering that I live in a place where healthcare is awful (Quebec), I probably won't have the colonoscopy until a few months. I received a call from the hospital though and they are checking out my stomach next week (Not looking forward to it... shoving cameras in my behind is one thing, but my mouth... Yikes!)

The surgeon did tell me that she expects I have IBS... Is that it for real? she didn't even tell me how to handle it, and they won't know for SURE until I get my behind checked up. So here I am waiting, and the symptoms are still going. I don't know what to do... confused

Hi ThyGoddess,

Welcome to Healing Well :-)

I suffer from C also. I also get mucus in my stool which is very common in IBS and nothing to be alarmed about unless its blood tinged. Clear, white, and brown mucus is normal. I'm sorry that the barium messed you up, that is the first time I heard of it giving long term problems. Its important to drink lots of water to flush out the barium after your xray because of the tendency to harden up and the risk to obstruct your bowels.

I hope you can get some information and questions answered from your scopes.

Take Care

Thank you dbab.

You suffer from "C"... that's constipation?

I got constipated with the barium even though I nearly drowned myself with water. So that's when I took a pill. All the barium got out, but before I had this test I still had constipation but I was managing to squeeze fair amounts out daily. And today, it's all very very thin and soft.
