Hi Everybody

I am 34 years old and have suffered on and off with ibs for the last 10 years or so. recently, though, It is starting to take over my life. I am looking for any help on offer - diet advice, practical etc. i seem to have a problem with diarrhorea a few times a day (and when I go it has to be NOW), and inbetween I have cramping almost constantly right at the bottom of my abdomen. I have been prescribed Buscopan and Colofac neither of which has had any effect. I have now been advised by one person to avoid all dairy, and by another to eat those Activia yogs. I am lost! Can anyone offer any advice, like I said it is now becoming such a big deal and more difficult to live with. The eveningns that stand out in my mins are no the ones of feeling ill, but those odd evenings when I felt well!I expect to be in bed straight after the kids with a hot water bag for the cramps and then to be up half the night as the pains are waking me. Sorry to rabbit on, hope some of you can help. And has anybody tried Motilium and if so, any good?

Thanks

Kbabble

Hi Kbabble,
Welcome to HealingWell! :-)
I really suggest you go back to your doc and tell him/her that the Buscopan & Colofac are not helping. There are plenty other antispasmodics to try. For instance, in the US we have the following: Donnatol, Levsin, Levbid, NuLev, and Bentyl.
Does using the hot water bottle help you? Many of us on here tend to use heat as well (heating pads). Fennel and peppermint help with spasms too... They are tasty as tea. Some use peppermint capsules, but I don't think you can get fennel like that.
Have you been tested for lactose or wheat intolerance? It might not be a bad idea to cut out dairy for about a week and see if you feel any better.
I am also a big advocate for Dannon Activia yogurt. I love it and have definitely noticed a difference eating it. I am way more regular, less "attacks" and less gas & bloating. Are you taking any probiotic supplements instead of eating yogurt?
