Hi,

I am brand new to this forum.  I am curious to find out if anyone has experienced vomiting with diarrhea.  I seem to experience this.  Is that IBS related?  Everything I read about IBS is just nausea, Diarrhea and constipation with abdominal pain.  I do get the pain, but am pretty much used to it.  I do the lamaz breathing and that seems to help.  The throwing up thing though is a real bother.  I cannot keep the pills down during an attack to stop diarrhea or to stop the muscle spasms.  Anybody got any advice?

Vomiting, while it can occur in someone with IBS, it's typically only seen in people with very sensitive stomachs (i.e. you've been prone to vomiting your whole life), or people in a lot of pain.

Vomiting is seen a lot more, however, in people with bad gall bladders, people with stomch ulcers, and sometimes in people with parasitic infections (although these are not very common in the Western World). Have you been checked for these things?

I have been checked out for parasites(least this all started happening after a visit to Belize - rainforest).
I don't know how they test for bad gall bladders. Would it show up in blood work. I already had a colonoscopy and Upper GI done and I believe that would've checked for stomach ulcers.

If they did an endoscopy (put the scope down your throat), then yes, they would have found any ulcers if you had them. No, gall bladders never show up in blood work; the only sure way to find them is a hida scan (and they're not 100% accurate--I had to have three before they found out that my gall bladder was bad).

You might have a lot in common, though, with Sarita. She has unexplained D and intermitant fevers and severe pains after getting two or three bouts of parasites while in the Peace Corps in various parts of the world. She never shows up as having a parasite, but they can't explain her problem either--not even the Mayo clinic could figure her out. I've heard that parasites, even when you have them, are hard to find, so if you've only been checked once, you may want to get checked for them again.

If your vomit or poops are ever yellow or green in color, though, that's a pretty big sign that you are probably having a gall bladder problem.
