I have IBS-C and am feeling at the end of my rope.

I take fiber supplements everyday, eat bran cereal every morning, removed red meat from my diet, and exercise 30 mins six days a week.  Once in a while I will get relief for two or three glorious months, but then something tiggers it (like my period or eating something like a piece of pizza) then I am back to constant C for months on end.

For the past four months I have been using Prunelax for some relief which work well the first two times, but not so great the last two times.

Today I was in so much pain and was so desperate that I bought a Fleet Glycerin, but it looks intimedating and have never inserted anything up there before.

Can someone please give me a little info on it and whether or not I should take it.

I should also tell you that I just started taking 6 capsules of metamucil everyday since last thursday and have drank about 13 glasses of water to help, but I only seem to get worse.  So far the only thing my doctor told me to use is Miralax but it really doesn't do the trick either.

Thanks in advance!

Hi christycheri,

I have not used the Fleet enema. I have used suppositories though and they seem to help. Stool softeners I think are really good too.

I noticed that you say that you started 6 capsules of metamucil everyday since last Thursday. The thing about fiber supplements is that you must start slow or you can have problems. Have you tried eating more fruit? Watermelon seems to be a natural laxative for me, bloats me like crazy but usually can get my bowels going. It sounds like you need something to take care of your current constipation and everything you are doing is geared towards long term. Take care of the short term and work yourself up with a long term solution. Fiber, Miralax, etc don't happen overnight but they can work but you need to de-impact (is that a word? :-) yourself first. Good luck

Take Care

Thanks so much for the advice!

I tired it last night and it worked a little...I think I should have given it more time to melt.

I also pick-up some stool softner and hopefully that will help. I stop taking the fiber until this is over and will just take only two or three capsules daily to avoid this from happening again.

If that doesnt help just take 2 Dulcolax and start over with the fiber therapy.

Good Morning,

I take the Fibercon tabs, 6 tabs a day but also use Senna for a laxative as it is a natural laxative.

This may sound crazy but frozen custard, like a chocolate shake works, however one cannot have a big shake everyday. :(

Lots of ideas and everyone is different.  I won't wait for the pain anymore.  I used to go 10 days and be in horrible pain, but I have had to drive home from work in a cold sweat in pain so I have learned.  Use what works if it is safe.

Good luck
