Hi,

I've put up with IBS for all my adult life (now 37 yrs old).  When I was about 22 I had a low level discomfort in my lower abdomin which lasted  a month or so with varing degrees of discomfort.  The symptom went away after my first colonosopy.

This year, the symptom came back at the beginning of the year and I eventually went on an elimination diet which appeared to help as the problem went away about 3 months ago. Last week, it came back again.

I'm wondering if it is bloating or something like that.  I don't really know what bloating feels like.  It appears to feel worse when I am in the sitting or bent position and I am also wondering if the colonoscopy the first time 'cleared out the system'.  Has anyone else experienced the problem?  It doesn't appear related to bowel movements.

Regards

Sorry,  also forgot to mention that strenuous exercise seems to help for a while  ie running, sprint training etc.

Bloating for me is like a fullness, very uncomfortable. I usually feel gassy too. Sitting and bent positions are hard, also bending over feels impossible at times. I'm a female so I feel like I look pregnant when things get bad. It's a horrible feeling. Exercise does help a great deal and is encouraged for bloating.

Thanks for the reply.   I know what you mean about exercise.  Last weekend I played in a Rugby Union match and felt much better till later on that night and then felt a bit better again on the Sunday and Monday.  Problem is that one can only exercise so much, particularly those of us not so young any more.

Does bloating get better after you flatulate?  My lower bowel pain doesn't seem to improve after doing anything except exercise.

It will generally feel better for at least a little while. You either have to burp it out or go the other way as the gas has to go somewhere. YOu can take different gas pills to break it up and that may help with the pain. Also you may be having spasms and the exercise may help stretch that out.

I woke up bloated the other night. I knew I was bloated because I really felt the need to burp or pass gas, and my stomach was distended and less squishy (i.e. harder) than it usually is. Unfortunately, though, if you are bloated most of the time, you wouldn't really recognize it becuase it would look and feel normal to you.
