First time ive ever written in a forum, very nervous actually. Im 29 year old women with IBS-D, i used to have a very healthly & active normal life, up until december 2006. I started to have bloating, cramping & major yellow watery D. with clear mucus Usually around 16-30 times per day. (more severe after eating) I went from 58Kgs to 47Kgs in two weeks! My life was turned upside down, wondering how i was going to pay my mortgage if i couldnt leave the loo to go to work..... I wanted my life back & this is what ive done:
Ive seen 5 GI's & Gyno
Colonoscopy - I dont have Chrons or Celiac
CT-Scan, Fluid found in the pouch of douglas, narrowing in small bowel
3 Ultra sounds - Normal
1 internal Ultra sound - No cysts, no endo, fluid in pouch of douglas
5 blood tests
Thryoid checked
No diabetes, gall bladder checked.
Checked for parasites with specialist 'stained' stool samples, normal accept for yeast cells.
Swallowed new pill cam - normal
Tried Colofac, calcium tables, iron tablets
Antibiotics- Flasgin
Imodium - stops the D, but causes me to swell up & bloat.
Ethical Nutrients IBS support, Inner health plus, Yakult.
Eating porridge seems to help a little, also metamusil is ok in small doses.
If one more doctor was going to tell me its normal, i was going to screem!   mad
Then i read about VSL#3.... Its fantastic! 1 week into drinking 1 packet per day my D has slowed down to 3 per day, less watery, urgeny has reduced by 80%. Its expensive but worth it. Please please please give it a try, its given me my life back.... for now anyway.
Hope this helps someone out there, it worked for me i truly hope it works for you. I guess you have nothing to loose accept the D!!  lol  tongue
Id really love to hear from anyone who has tried VSL#3....

VSL #3 is not discussed here to much but I have noticed many people on the UC forum that are on it. Lots of them have had success as well. I take a different probiotic which seems to help me but I know that I had the VSL #3 written down as an option if I needed to try something different.

So glad its worked for you.

Its a high potency probiotic, 450 billion live bacteria in powder form you mix with water etc, (it has different bacteria to other probiotics on the market) It tastes yuk, but who cares if it works! On the web site they say its for people with Ileal pouc, Ulcerative Colitis, IBS
take a look at there website for information to see if it suits you www.vsl3.com
Im sure its available in the US, i actually had problems purchasing it in Australia, i ended up getting it on line from www.epharmacy.com.au
Id be interested to know how you go if you try it. Good luck!
