I have Ulcerative Colitis as well and my GI gave me Bentyl, an anti-spasmotic, b/c I experience a lot of stomach pain anytime I eat. You have to take the med 1/2 hr before you eat. Just been on it a short time but one, it's doesn't seem to be working and, two, I'm feeling dizzy, some nausea, just out of sorts since taking it. I researched it online and some drug sites state Bentyl is not indicated in people with UC, take supplements and have active bleeding, among other things. Would the GI not know this??? I am going to call her, but looking for others w/experience w/this drug. Will also post on the UC site.
Dx Ulcerative Colitis 1999; IBS; CP: Asacol x3 x3/day, Rowasa, Proctofoam, Prilosec, Bentyl, Prozac, Endocet (as needed), multi vit, probiotic, fish oil caps x2/day, calcium 1200 mg./day, Prednisone (off/on, unfortunately).

This is a good website for ulcerative colitis. I don't see anything about an antispasm drug.

Bentyl never worked for me.  IMO, it's a useless drug.

I found Bentyl to work best for me of all the choices. Everyone has a different drug that works ( somewhat). I preferr the 10 mg caps as sometimes that's enough medication. If not I take another which brings me up to 20 mg ( the reg dose). I think it has less extra stuff in it. Librax has 5 mgs of Librium. I had a rx to take that 3 x a day. No way! I'd be stoned. I found it didn't work for me very well anyway. Merri
