The day after I have an IBS attack (usually in the evenings) of diarrhea, I feel completely drained and exhausted.  I don't know if its the attack itself or the anxiety with it but the next day I'm wiped out.  Does anyone else feel this way? Is this normal for IBS? Does anyone know why it happens?

IBS usually hits me in the morning and can go on for hours.  For myself I get excruciating cramps, spasms and diarrhea and when it's all over hours later, I'm exhausted for the rest of the day.  I've wondered if it's because I'm dehydrated or from the pain.

Just wanted to reply b/c I have "chronic fatigue" pretty much every day, at least this past year due to increased activity (major UC flare). Even if my diarrhea is minimal a particular day (1-2X day), I still have pain after eating and cramping, so, yah, I'm fatigued. I sometimes feel like I'm walking around all day under water or on sand, you know, the effort of it all. I started an exercise program awhile ago--always kept as active as physically possible, but this time specifically to increase energy--and although my stamina is good and my body feels somewhat stronger, it has done very little for the consant fatigue I feel. I do it anyway, because it can't hurt. I've had IBS for approx. 20 years and ulcerative colitis for approx. 10 yrs, the fatigue part wasn't too bad until about 4 years ago, maybe it's b/c of how long I've been dealing with all of this?

Your electrolyes may be out of balance. Is it possible for you to drink a little Gatorade and see if that helps or it could be potassium loss but don't mess with that yourself though a glass of orange juice or banana won't hurt. I really would ask Dr but it seems that your body would be out of balance after a bad attack.

I agree with Canyon. Many people experience fatigue and most of the time there is an underlying cause and its important to get it checked out. If you don't feel better after ingesting what Canyon suggested, it might be a good idea to talk with your doctor.

I'm done with doctors.  Had this since I was a kid and none ever helped at all. It'll either kill me or it won't but I'm done with them.

My doctor told me the fatigue is because your body has just riddled itself of all the nutrients it needs. You need to restore the potassium, magnesium and calcium in your body. Also, water and have something salty.
