My experiences with miralax have been horrific.  I failed at the colonoscopy because it did not remove stool.  Then I had a second colonoscopy with a two day purge which was not fun.  Since zelnorm was removed from market, my doc suggested miralax for a substitute. That was after the failed colonoscopy, would you believe?  The IBS with connstipation was worse than it had ever been before.  Hope nobody else had this experience but if you did...would you reply.  Also please reply with news on any other zelnorm alternatives which you have experienced.  Thanks.

I know you are only asking for horrible Miralax experiences but I thought I'd reply since its only fair to hear the good and the bad.

Sorry Miralax didn't work for you. To say its a killer is a bit harsh IMO. It has been one of the best things to ever happen to me and I have been continuously taking it for around 3 years now. Actually Zelnorm made me horribly sick and I couldn't take it at all. Miralax and fiber has made my life so much better.

Are you saying that Miralax was given to you as prep for colonoscopy the first time. I don't understand about removing the stool. Prep for colonscopy is usually a pretty strong purge.

Well that is what happened. Zelnorm is the only thing that has worked for me. I understand that we all have slighly different body chemistry. I believe I was referring to myself and therefore...am entitled to an opinoin. I know that alleve (otc) was terrific for my arthritis but since I came down with reflux...it became very difficult to take.

Peace to all...may the force be with you.

Miralax didn't do anything for me and I took it for a week. When you say horrible was it too strong or too weak? For me it was really weak and only produce water. But sorry to hear about it. I know it is frustrating when there are so many other drugs for other problems but when it comes to IBS the few they have on the market are terrible.

Hi Joan,

I also had a bad experience with miralax...it produced alot of heartburn for me.  I also have gerd along with IBS-C.  I tried taking it for a few days, produced heartburn on the second day; I quit and tried it again in a week and the same thing happened.  It took me two days to get over the heartburn.  LIke you, Zelnorm worked the best for me.  My doc has me on Amitiza, and it works pretty good for C but the side effects for me are strange.  I have energy but at the same time I feel a strange tiredness in my eyes and body.  I don't sleep good taking it.    I hope something comes along that was as good as Zelnorm.
