My sister is at 25% kidney function from a 3rd degree burn she got on her leg from an accident 8 months ago where the meds messed up her healthy kidneys. She was on dialysis for 2 months, then off. Now 4 months later the Kidney doctor told her she was now at 25% kidney function down from 30%. He gave her Azathioprine pills that he said would PREVENT further progression so she won't have to go on dialysis. His very words. From what I read, it is for kidney transplants after the patient has had it so it won't be refjected, and other ills as well. My sister has not had a transplant.

My question is, does it really prevent her kidneys from going less than 25%? I can't find that info anywhere on google that this medicine does that for Renal Kidney Failure. Any doctors out there care to add a comment ?

Thank you
