Hello everyone,

I drink more fluids than the average person (at least 8 glasses of water everyday), but I keep getting moderately dehydrated (my symptoms: elevated heart rate, dry skin, dark urine color, sleepiness, muscle twitching/cramps/spasms, dry/sticky mouth, sometimes dizziness especially when standing up etc). Water helps improve my symptoms for a few hours, but then if I don't drink a ton of fluids throughout the day I'll get dehydrated again. I often wake up extremely dehydrated in the morning, no matter how much I drink when I go to bed. The only way by which I can prevent this is to wake up in the middle of the night and drink lots of water. Sleeping with the A/C on (even when it's cold out) also seems to help somewhat.

This problem started 2-3 years ago and I don't know how to fix it. I used to drink much less than this and not get dehydrated. I honestly drink as much as I can, but my body doesn't seem to retain the fluids for more than a few hours. Do I have diabetes insipidus or something? Can anyone relate? Do you think a urologist or a nephrologist could help? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I seem to have a similar problem. I was just curious if you are on a low carb diet? My problem seems to have started when I changed my diet. I've always started having problems with kidney stones.

I have been searching for the cause of my cloudy urine for ages. People kept telling me to drink more water but it never went away. It wasn't until I started getting in some electrolytes that the water did any good. I spent the day by the pool pounding regular water and my lips were still parched and I had to go to the bathroom frequently.

Now I drink water with 1/4 tsp of pink or grey salt. It tastes better and has more minerals than regular table salt. (Also did you know that iodized salt has sugar in it?!) Of course drinking salt water itself is gross so I add a dash of cherry or lemon concentrate to mask the salty taste. There are recipes out there that include adding honey but I find that I don't need it.

It sounds like you could also use a magnesium supplement for the twitching and cramps and it would help your heart rate too. I use Natural Calm by Nature Vitality.

I hope this helps someone!

I forgot to add that dehydrated foods suck up too much moisture so I don't eat those. I have also discovered that I get dehydrated from eating foods with a higher starch content. I can eat spaghetti squash OK but if I eat butternut squash, the cloudy urine comes back. No one has been able to give me an explanation for this but it is what I have figured out through trial and error. Maybe this will save someone some time.
