Hi guys! Recently ive been suspected of having renal artery stenosis after a doppler ultrasound of my renal arteries showed relative increase in the peak systolic velocity with turbulence in the left mid main renal artery
My peak systolic velocity of right renal artery is 95 cm/sec whereas left renal artery is 215cm/sec. (Normal being around 100cm/sec) with turbulence in the mid arterial segment. My renal artery to aortic ratio is within normal limits at 1.24. There may be a stenosis and it may not be hemodynamically significant.
Left kidney measures 11.1cm, right kidney 11.3cm (normal) Both have normal renal parenchymal echoes and smooth cortical margins. No cysts or masses seen.
Normal intrarenal arterial wave forms, no parvus tardus waveform and resistive indices(RI) within normal limits.
I am now on blood pressure med amlodipine 5mg after blood pressure increased to 160-175/80-95.
Blood results also show increased aldosterone 686 pmol/L (normal <445 pmol/L), my aldosterone to renin ratio (ARR) is 581. Suggestive of primary aldosteronism. I do know this is the case for renal artery stenosis as the kidney mistakenly detects low blood pressure and releases renin into the system. Thus the artery become narrow.
Anyone have similar experiences with renal artery stenosis or renovascular hypertension, can be due to atherosclerosis or fibromuscular dysplasia(FMD). This commonly affects old people and women respectively, but im only 20 and male!!
My symptoms include left side pain (when I sit too long there is a achy feeling and when there is weight there it hurts) even though it is normally without symptoms other than the hypertension.
Anyone in similar situations or know of someone and would like to share their experiences/treatment etc? Much appreciated!;) : turn
