May be prone to chronic prostatitis due to recurrent UTI's. Just came off of 2 weeks antibiotics to quite this most recent event. Is there anything I can do to prevent these recurrent episodes that does not involve taking oral antibiotics (unless absolutely necessary)? Is there any evidence that topical antibiotics used as needed (or prophylactically) will keep these eveents at bay before they get out of hand (positive/negative effects)? Thank you all very much...

Sono, I have read a lot about people taking cranberry capsules available at any store that sells vitamins. They indicate this is very helpful to them. I drink a lot of cranberry juice when this happens to help flush the kidneys. My sister always takes a product called Azo the minute she feels she is getting a UTI, available over the counter. Also, you are aware prostatitis is a condition that is not always receptive to antibiotics & can become chronic. I know nothing about the connection between UTI's & prostatitis, have never heard of the connection between the two.

Good luck.
