Has anyone else seen the report from Katie Couric on Failing the disabled. If not you can go to ww.cbsnews.com to see it. Good report that made a statement.

Sad how some really sick people have to wait SO long for help. I guess they need a better standard so people can be properly screened the first time. *sigh* The article says that LOTS of people never appeal after they are denied so it saves SS a lot of $. Very sad.

Go to the end of the report and see the other videos. The man who had the back surgery had gotten approved. They did a update and you can see the other videos they  did over 3 nights.

Thanks for finding that and updating the link, Rosie. A bit of fog creeping in today, I guess.

I did find one piece of good news in the links I followed from the story....they say 2/3 of the people that continue the SSDI process out to the very end are eventually awarded benefits. The road may be long and dreary, the pot of gold may be small...but at least there is 2/3 of a chance that it exists!

Hi to old friends and new,

I filed for disability in June 2006. I was denied (as most are on the first try). I got an attorney for the appeal and was denied. At this point, the next step is appearing before a judge. My attorney sent a letter along with a copy of all my medical records, letters from doctors, etc. and reasons for why I should be awarded the benefit without a hearing. Within a couple of weeks I got a letter of approval from SSDI. My first check came in November of 2007.

If you are filing or considering filing, get an attorney who specializes in SSDI. They know how the system works. Get your doctors cooperation as they will be filling out forms about you etc. And hang in there!

Now I'll go read the links. Thanks for posting them, Tink. Just wanted to tell my story before I forgot!
