I haven't had nosebleeds, and I'm not sure that they are one of the main symptoms of lupus, but it's possible it might be related. I remember you posting about your brother before. When does he go see the rheumy? I really hope he sees a good rheumy who will really listen and try to put all the pieces of the puzzle together. Make sure he has every symptoms written down, even the ones that might seem small or unrelated. Every little bit of information will help the doc try to make a diagnosis.

You and your brother are in my thoughts.
Diagnosis:  UCTD (lupus) 2006; Raynauds 2006; Sjogren's 2006; lupus symptoms began 2003; CFS 1991; Mono 1985

I have never heard of nosebleeds being associated with Lupus, but you never know. If the rheumy is no help, I would suggest he see an ENT (ear, nose and throat). I know someone with frequent nosebleeds that started all the sudden and it's sinus related. I hope your brother gets some answers soon! Take care

DX: Hashimoto's 1999, Celiac Disease (AKA: gluten sensitivity) 2003, Raynaud's 2004, Lupus 2005 and Sjogrens 2006

Yes Hello...I remember you too.  First rheumy told my brother that his swollen ankles were just from the heel spurs.  He obviously didn't want to bother with my brother.  Therefore, my brother went back to the foot dr. and he said that he needs to go get a second opinion and gave him a list of diseases that he wants him to be tested for.  Again, the not knowing is worse than knowing.  When I heard he had a nose bleed last night, I read up on it today and it said it could be a symptom before a flare up.  THe only thing is that my brother's feet really swelled and became painful when because he was watching his daughter who has reflux(4 months old) and had to clean his house because he had a Christening party.  All day Sunday he was in pain with his feet during his daughter's Christening and then that evening got the nosebleed.  I'm just happy to hear from both of you that you never heard of this being a symptom.  THat gives me hope. T hanks and I'll keep you posted.

Hi jdeet,

Nosebleeds can be caused by anemia. I used to get them when my iron was really low. But they can be caused by lots of other things too. My dad used to get them about e/o/month when he stopped giving blood. His body had gotten so accustomed to giving blood for over 30 years, that he kept making the extra blood!! Weird hugh??? He would have a gusher nose bleed and then he was fine.

He should be keeping a symptom journal so he doesn't forget to tell the doctor.
