Oh my, do I have problems with my teeth. I'm a huge fanatic when it comes to taking care of my mouth, and since I started taking medications for my lupus, the health of my mouth has seriously declined. My gums ALWAYS bleed when I brush and floss. For awhile, they were even bleeding while I slept. My gum line has receeded in front of one of my teeth to point where you can see the root. Amazingly, it doesn't hurt at all.
I tried having a root scaling done a couple years ago. After the first appointment, which they did the left side and front of my teeth, I bled for 36 hours. The ER doctor put tea bags on my gums to get them to stop bleeding; it didn't work. He finally put some strips on them that are used in surgery to stop bleeding. Why he didn't try that first is beyond me, because those worked great. My rheumy told me it was because I was on methotrexate and prednisone; they thin the blood out. I'm under strict orders not to let a dentist touch my gums again.
Since that fiasco, my gum line in the bottom front pulls away from teeth; so now when I clean my mouth, I have to use this thing that looks like a syringe to spray into the gum line to make sure it gets clean. I hate my mouth.
