Thanks Carol & Babs, I heard back from the rheumy's office, she said my B12 was low because of decreased absorption and also from the lupus meds I am on. In addition to the 3 mg of folic acid I take daily, she wants to add Folgard OS which I believe also has other vitamins and minerals including B12 & calcium. I hope it works well and I can shake some of the symptoms and get out of this flare.
Carol, I've been missing you, update us on how you are doing when you are up to it. hugs and love to you!
Babs, I don't think my b12 was low enough for injections. It was still in the normal range at 392 (range is 211 - 911) but it was low enough to be causing some problems. I was very surprised to learn about
B12, what it does and what can happen if it's low. Here are some symptoms & a link.
Vitamin B12 and Folate Deficiency labtestsonline.org/understanding/conditions/vitaminb12-2.html
Loss of appetite
Rapid heart rate
Shortness of breath
Sore tongue and mouth
Tingling, numbness, and/or burning in the feet, hands, arms, and legs (with B12)
The last symptom I think it what prompted my rheumy to check my B12, I think it's a good idea for all of us to ask our doctors to check these important vitamin levels which could be causing some of our problems. Take care all and have a great weekend! Hugs to all
