I am extremely nervous about going back on birth control. Since the birth of my daughter and my diagnosis of Lupus I have tried to go back on oral contraceptives and develop splitting migraines. So I wanted to know if there is currently anyone on birth control and if there have been any complications with Lupus?  They have recently come out for a generic for Yasmin and i can get a 3 month supply for $12 so I was going to give it a try. Also I would like to find a new rheumy in AZ and wanted to know if anyone could recommend one in the Gilbert/ Queen Creek area. I have been getting such terrible pain in my wrists and arms lately that is feels like my hands are going to fall off. I have also been in a flare for about a week with all the stress from packing, haven't even got to the moving part yet. I try to pack a little then rest but every time I get started it's hard for me to just stop packing so i always end up over doing it, then the next day Im pretty much useless. Any advice would be great!!

((((( Nsearch))))))) I know how you feel, I've got a move at the end of the month and I really don't know how I'm going to do it. I plan on dissappearing with the kids on moving day and leaving the actual moving to my hubby. I found this article on birth control. Thought you might be interested.

I don't know about the Gilbert/Queen Creek area specifically, but I had a wonderful rhuemy in Mesa. The office is in the same complex that Banner Desert Hospital is located on. Arizona Arthritis and Rheumatology....Dr. Bennett and Dr. Caldron are great and very knowledgable about lupus.

Hi Natalie,

Sorry . . . I wasn't able to use oral contraceptives. I had bad headaches and bad pain in my calves and the doc was afraid it might be blood clots. But that was 30 years ago . . . .so things may have changed.

I hope you get some helpful response to your post.

I've been on birth control since September. I am currently on Kariva. Its a low dose estrogen type since I too had stomach issues and headache issues with other birth control. I haven't had any problems with this kind. If you don't want to take a pill daily have you asked your doctor about the Neuva Ring? I used that for a few months so I wouldn't get pregnant before going to Mexico. It didn't make me sick or anything, but I did have sort of a reaction with extra discharge. Gross!

I was on birth control for years, first the pill then depo provera. Unfortunately for me it made things very bad for me. 2 shots of depo and I gained 100+lbs without a change in diet or exercise. I had worse migraines and my fatigue and joint pain much worse.

I was on the pill for about a month and a half before I had a terrible flare and ended up in the hospital. I'm no expert, but I think there may have been a connection, and have not used it since.
