The ER has a definite place in our care . . . but I would avoid it unless you have an actual emergency (something that can't wait for a phone call to your chosen doctors).

The sometimes do whats called "treat and street". This can be way expensive but doesn't always bring you further along as far diagnosis and treatment because they generally end your visit with "make sure to see your regular doctor".

One exception: some people w/o insurance can use the ER and qualify for help with payment.
