Hi, can anyone out there tell me if they have been pregnant and/or have kids and have lupus? i had a miscarriage a couple months ago and recently got pregnant again. i am 10 weeks... we heard the heartbeat last week.. and everything was great inside they said.. baby is right on schedule..
but i am still worried. i have been reading a lot of scary things like your baby has a high risk of being stillborn.. i just dont know what to believe anymore.
i am also on a drug called IMURAN. also known as AZOTHORIPENE (sp?) has anyone ever been on this and pregnant? if you were, is your baby healthy? any birth defects on the baby?
so if anyone has had a great pregnancy and healthy baby and living with lupus please share with me.. i would love to hear some reassuring words from moms to be or moms already
Thanks!! =)

My high risk specialist, geneticist, rheumetologist, and OB doc all agreed Imuran is low risk at the doses used in autoimmune diseases. Kidney transplant patients have had babies on imuran for 40yrs with no more problems than the general public. Like the info on plaquenil hasn't been changed since it's introduction imuran is the same. I have a healthy happy 3 1/2 month old I had while on all my lupus meds. I also have a healthy 13 1/2 and 11yr old had before my diagnosis/treatment both conceived and carried during a full flare. I have to say my last pregnancy was the easiest- almost no problems and those I did have are actually problems many healthy/normal pregnant women have. My other 2 I had major complications with. I have had multiple miscarriages. Just have them do the most extensive newborn screening test available without amnio or chronic villa sampling. I think it is a triple or quad screen don't recall exact name. A could extra ultrasounds and careful following along with a very healthy diet and you should have a healthy baby. I have never had a stillborn and I have had 2 other children that died from a genetic metabolic disease that was undiagnosed. Their deaths had NOTHING to do with my lupus. I have been ill since my early teen years with enough criteria to be dxed but wasn't until recently.

I wish you the best of luck.

Hi Keo,

Welcome to the forum!! I'm sorry for your loss. Pregnancy, after a miscarriage, is always pretty scary. I don't take immuran and don't know much about it, sorry. But wanted to say hello, and send a hug, a prayer, and . . .

Hi Keo,
I'm also on Imuran, but have no plans to be a mom.  Too many issues.  I've also heard that Imuran is quite safe.  Welcome to the forum!

Hi Keo! I'm sorry, I don't have any children yet so I don't have any answers for you, but I'm very interested in this topic. I am one of those girls who has dreamed of being a mommy for as long as I can remember. Once I was diagnosed with lupus, I was very concerned about whether it would affect my dream. My boyfriend is so understanding about everything, and we talk a lot about this. He has always told me that if I am unable to have 'our' baby or if it is too dangerous for me or the baby, we can always adopt. I think this is a wonderful option, but I would like to know about other Lupus patients' experiences, because I would really love to have my own baby. Who knows, maybe we could do both!
Anyway, thanks for bringing this up, and good luck with your baby. I wish the very best!
Lots of Love!

Hello Keo!  So sorry to hear about your miscarriage.  I am also pregnant currently (only about 6 weeks) but my Lupus is currently active as well.  My doctor just perscribed me Imuran and I have never taken it either.  I am curious to see how much your doctor has you on.  Are you on prednisone and plaquenil too?  They have moved my prednisone from 10mg to 20mg.  Is this all safe for the baby?  It is such a happy yet frightening time it has been hard for me to enjoy the fact that I am pregnant.

Amber :)
