My mom finally went to the rheumatologist and they said her immune system is not functioning properly and would not diagnose her with lupus because despite an elevated ana even while on a large dose of steroids, the one reflex titer they did came out negative for anti ds-dna.
Anyway, they did not diagnose her with anything specific but put her on Imuran along with the steroids she is taking. I think this is a really strong drug for her to take, especially if she is not fighting infections on just the steroids. But the doc said that they cannot give her plaquenil because she is allergic to sulfa drugs. Is this right? I didn't think it had sulphur in it.
I worry about my mom on this drug, she is not doing so great as it is and she doesn't really know what any of these drugs are that they give her, she just takes them. I heard good things about it though on the forums for ulcerative colitis. She says the steroids aren't stopping the diarrhea. I told her about the questran and how well it worked for me, but she forgot to ask about it.
I'm worried. She's on a lot of drugs now and just keeps getting worse and is sick all the time. They do give her antibiotics, but even with them, on all the steroids they do not work very well.
Thanks for anyinfo or advice you can give.
