Hi everyone! I hope you're all doing okay today. I'm still very much a newbie with no diagnosis, but did have my first appointment today and thought I'd share how it went.

This morning when I woke up I realized that for the first time in months I barely had any joint pain. That was a nice feeling, but it was sort of frustrating that it happened on the day of my appointment.

The rheumatologist talked really fast, but he did listen to me (I think) and went over everything in my lab results from back in May. I don't have any visible joint swelling and most likely no organ involvement, but I was running a fever and didn't even realize it.

Here's my question: My ana is low positive. The dr. looked at the lab results and said that it looked like the lab was saying that I had a positive ana with speckled, centromere, homogeneous and nucleolar pattern. Does that make sense? Is it even possible? I thought there would just be one pattern. I'm totally confused.

Since it's been 6 months since that test he's going to have it done again at his lab. I should find out something next week.

Thanks in advance for any responses!

LuAnne :-)

Thanks, redrose77! I am kicking myself now for not asking the dr. to clarify that a little bit for me, because he seemed perfectly willing to answer any question. It's just that I was nervous and couldn't get my thoughts together. Oh well.

Don't kick yourself, I can think of a million questions in hindsight!! I have never had a positive ana, so i'm really not that familiar with it. But, I really hope you get some answers soon! God Bless You, Judy

Thanks, Judy, I appreciate your post. :-)

I'm trying not to be too hard on myself for not asking everything... at least I have a follow up appointment in a few weeks. I can ask more questions then, but I am really curious about the patterns in the meantime.

Check the Lupus Resources thread - the first one in the forum. I'm pretty sure there is a post in there that goes into detail about the different patterns. Sorry, I don't remember everything all that well - you could also use your favorite search to look for "ana patterns" or something like that.
