I am 33 and African American living with Lupus SLE and Breast Cancer. I started developing and menstruating at the age of 9. My periods have always been very short and painful. I gave birth at an early age ( 19 years old) . I am glad that I did because when my husband and I tried again at the age of 25 I was diagnosed with Lupus SLE and could not have children. My Lupus is pretty server , with facial and bodily rashes , extreme sensitivity to the sun,. bone and joint pain, mouth sores, migraines, lung, kidney and intestinal problems. I also have chronic low white blood cell count as well as anemia. I have been hospitalized once a year for the last 3 years due to these issues. October of 2009 I was diagnosed with Invasive Ductile Cancer in the left breast.By the time I went in to surgery the tumor doubled in size. I opted for a double mastectomy with no reconstruction. I have had 4 rounds of Adriamycin and Cytoxan one round once every 3 weeks. Now I am on my third treatment of Taxol once a week for 12 weeks. I have to take the Neupogen shots to build up my white blood cell count throughout my treatment. I am tolerating things ok,I guess. I wanted to reach out to anyone going through the same issue and hear how your treatment is going or how it went for support.

Welcome to Healing Well, Nikkey. We have a lot of members who've had all kinds of experiences with lupus -- I can't think of anyone offhand who's had breast cancer at the same time, but I'm sure someone here will step forward who has shared your experiences.

Thanks for joining us,

(( Sweetie)) I am so sorry you are going thru this. I really hope you have a good man and that your teenager is understanding. Well, at least as much as a teenager can be. It sounds to me that the double mastectomy was the way to go- try to stop the cancer in its' tracks.

I've never had cancer. I had two benign breast tumors removed years ago and none since. I don't know if we have anyone on our forum with cancer, but I just wanted to let you know that my heart goes out to you. Please let us know how you're doing okay? Love, Butterflake

Nikkey, I also want to welcome you to our forum. It's a great place to seek support, friends who understand, and what information we might be able to share. I don't know anyone who has had to endure both lupus and breast cancer but as Lynwood said, you'll meet people here who have had lots of different experiences with lupus. It's good to hear that you're tolerating the treatments as well as you are.

Stick around and tell us more about yourself. I'm glad you're here.

Hi Nikkey,

Welcome to the forum! You have so much going on. I'm so sorry you have to deal with cancer on top of all this. How are you managing emotionally with it? Do you have a good support network around you?

Hi Nikkey, welcome! So sorry you have to deal with two diseases' at such a young age. I am 38 and started having health problems when I was 31, before that I was never sick. It's been hard to adjust but I do the best I can. We share a lot of the same symptoms of lupus, joint pain, GI issues, low WBC, migraines, sun sensitivity, mouth sores and lung issues. I've been dealing with pleurisy since the beginning of Feb and just can't shake it.

I pray your treatment continues to go well. Feel free to ask more questions, that's what we're here for. Take care
