I have had a 2 Uti's in 3 months either that or it's not going away. I just know I have been on 2 different antibiotics. Did any of you have this when you first got sick? My Doctor still can't figure out what I have. This is just one more problem

Hey Louise,
I seem to get about one UTI a year and had one in May right before my quarterly appointment with my rhuemy.  She said it's very common with autoimmune diseases and obviously, it's because our immune system is compromised so we are more prone to getting other infections.  I told her I would rather give birth again that have the UTI's.  I've learned to catch them as quickly as I can, drink lots of water to flush out toxins and drink cranberry juice a couple of times a week at least to try and prevent them.  Hope you get it under control soon.
Hugs and Angels,
DX - sle and carpal tunnel
RX - plaquenil, prednisone, lisiniprol, etolodac, hormones and vitamins

Hi Louise - about the time I was finally put on Plaquenil, and was at my sickest, I also had a UTI.  Have had 3-4 in the last year and a half and that is more than I've had in over 10 yrs.   I recently dropped my Plaquenil back to half the dose and after 5 wks went into a big flare and another UTI which required 7 days of abx.  Of course I resumed my regular dose of Plaquenil.

I've wondered if there is a connection between the AI problem and the UTI's.  My PC is the one who ends up treating it and I keep forgetting to ask my rheumy about it.  I don't seem to have the typical sx of UTI - no burning, cramping, kidney pain, etc.  Or it's so mild compared to everything else it goes under the radar lol.  I just feel extra tired, may have a very low grade fever, and notice bubbles/foam in my pee.

Cranberry pills can help without adding all the sugar of juice, staying well hydrated with water, and sometimes when I'm feeling particularly lousy and suspect a UTI, I'll use AZO strips to test for infection.  I think they are pretty accurate.  If it tests mildly positive I'll use the cranberry pills and flush my system, then retest in a couple days.  Often that takes care of it.  If not, I call the doc.

Good question - more info would be great.....

Yea I didn't even know I had one the second time. I went for something different and I had to pee so often she decided to check. I also run a low fever but that's nothing new. Thanks you guys I thought I was nuts. I haven't had a uti in 20 some years. Since my pregnancy years.

Hey louise, that is how mine commonly are! I have no idea I have one. I went last friday to the nephrologist and he started me on Levaquin because my WBC and other fighting cells were very high in the urine. and no symptoms. I have this happen almost every time. Last year I had them about 7 times, but I also blame most of those on the medicine I was using and causing my immune system to get too low. Before my diagnosis 4 years ago, I never had one in my life and they didnt start until last year! I know this isnt helpful but just another persons story!
