Hello, does anybody know how soon after taking methotrexate you start feeling side effects? Is it immediate or does it take a couple of doses?

I believe it is more like a few weeks, but I haven't had it myself. Hopefully a member will come along that has been on MTX.

Cheers,

Thanks Lynnwood. I am so new to this and every week I start a new drug and I have not been feeling well to begin with.

I have taken methotrexate for about 5 years now. I had some nausea after the first couple of
months. I take the highest dose allowed - 20 mgs. once a week. Nausea is the only side
effect I have experienced and usually drinking some ginger ale or eating something will help.

Thanks anna24, I just started on a 2.5 mgs so I am guessing it is a really low doseage.
Along with prednisone 5 mgs and Hydroxychlor 200 mgs and folic acid. I have not been feeling very well lately as I understand it may take a while before the meds kick in.
Thnka again for the info and advice. :)

Hi Kat,

It took several months for it to kick in for me and I am on 7.5 mg a week. Be sure to take it with your biggest meal. I usually don't have nausea unless I don't have enough on my stomach but if you still feel sick there is a medication to help with that, I can't remember the name but I am sure your pharmacist or doctor will know.

The only other symptoms I had was when we increased my dose to 12.5 mg, within a couple of days I was sick, felt lethargic, etc. Once I went back down to my original dose those symptoms went away.

I pray it kicks in soon for you and you begin to feel better! Take care

Hi jhmon, Thanks, I did not know about taking it with my biggest meal I will do that from now on. This site is so great, I am learning things from nice and helpfull people like you that sometimes you doctor or pharmacist might forget or overlook to tell you. and with being newly diagnosed I was not ready for all the questions I would have. How long have you been on the methotrexate for? I hope I am feeling better soon too, God knows I have felt sick long enough. God bless

Hi Kat,

You are most welcome! I know how overwhelming this all can be, but you are doing great, just keep asking questions and learning all you can about your illness. I also suggest you write your questions down and take them with you to your doctor's appt, I have to do that or I would forget yeah

I have been on MTX since Feb 2008 and it took a good 2 months before I could tell it was working, but we are all different so don't give up on it. Feel free to ask more questions. God Bless you too!

Hi there,
Just found this forum by searching online.
I got diagnosed with Coup De Sabre linear morphea/scleroderma...so wondered if anyone else was dealing with anything like that?
I just started Methotrexate, so any group on here that has MTX experience would be a great comfort too.
Been 2 weeks on 5mg and just went up to 10mg MTX today. Hoping the side effects will be ok.
