I have read alot of posts on hear and you all seem very knowledgeable so Im going to throw some things out there and maybe someone can help. I was diagnosed with type one diabetes in may of "09" and since things have just seemed to go down hill. The doc's still have me classified as severely brittle. Ok, so here is whats going on, I started having sever pain in my right leg just above the knee, and my right elbow just above the elbow, swelling and very bad weakness but its intermittent it lasts a week or two gets feeling better for a couple days then right back to having to wear a brace that covers my entire leg for sake of it giving out, and god help me for just getting into bed with out face planting into it because my elbow collapses. Now this only happens on one side of my body. I was diagnosed with Raynuads 9-10 years ago, and anyone that has experienced that knows how bad it can hurt. But the really odd part is that here lately Im sooo tiered all the time and even when i am exhausted I wake up 4,5, and sometimes 6 times a night, cause im soo thirsty, no joke When I wake up I drink 2 20oz bottles of water each time and its like I had nothing, I drink roughly 2-3 2litter bottles of water during the day, and my eyes feel like sand papper. And yes I understand that diabetes makes you thirsty, but even when I have days of great control its like this. The docs told me that my last blood test was neg. ANA, so they didnt think Lupus until the joint pain got real bad, he says that he is throwing it back on the table. I have had numerous skin infections over the past 6months, hives without being provoked, and my monthly cycles have gone NUTS, Im lucky to have a full week of not being on it. Im 29 and just seems like im falling apart. So please can someone that has had some of these experiences give me some input. Oh forgot to add my sister is a RN and she told me to be checked for MCTD, what is that? Please any info is greatly appreciated confused

If you suspect lupus or MCTD (mixed connective tissue disease, basically "something similar to lupus but we don't know quite what to call it") it's best to consult with a rheumotologist.

Thirst is not usually a lupus symptom. Have they checked your thyroid thoroughly? I know diabetes can affect the thyroid and the thyroid can contribute to auto-immune disease symptoms.

You might want to look at the first topic "Lupus Resources" to see our recommendations about doctors, etc.
