I do not have RA and I will do my best to describe my joint issues. Most of the time they swell up pretty big and get nice and red with a warm/hot to touch where the inflamation is. It hurts to bend or move the joint that is swollen. If the joint is not moving at all than there is absolutly no pain. BUT sometimes I get pain and there is no swelling or redness, but this doesnt happen very often. I would say there is weakness but only because I can not grip or hold onto anything or even move quickly when I am in pain. Some of the time if my knees are bothering me, I can't get off the toilet w/o help because the pain is so severe. I have also had tendon pain in my hands and feet. My hands almost feel like carpal tunnel but when the swelling goes down in the tendon, the pain is gone. My feet is horrible pain, very challenging to walk w/ this pain!

From time to time my joints feel like someone has inserted a burning acid down deep in the joint. A chemical burning feeling from the inside out. (I don't have RA.)

Other times I am just very stiff and sore bordering on 7 on the pain scale, but so pervasive I can't tell if it's joints or muscles/tendons...I think it's everything. Some swelling, sometimes red but most often not.

As far as I can tell the best remedies are anti-inflammatory meds....of course pain meds can help, but the real issue is the lupus (or RA) inflammation causing the pain.

There is alot with one attacks larger joints, and one attacks smaller joints. There is something with different types of joints hinge joints, ball and socket joints, etc. I forget what exactly it is now!
