I am so down right now! I can't seem to get rid of this pain and I wonder if I ever will! I long for a good night's sleep but it never comes. I started the Plaquenil a few days ago. I know it takes time to work but I do hope it starts to soon.
When I went to see the rhuemy he said that my thyroid was enlarged but I recently had a blood test done to check my thyroid and it came back ok. Could that be wrong? The nurse practitioner that I spoke with sounded very concerned and told me not to put off the appointment and to get in there right away. I have an appointment Monday with my primary care dr for it.  Is it possible to have a problem and it not show up on a blood test?
I know that you all suffer with pain that is overwhelming at times. How do you keep from sinking into a pit? I just want to feel good again!

Remember that Lupus is basically inflammation run wild. Maybe inflammation is enlarging your thyroid but it is still functioning properly?

Sometimes I've just had to wait for the next day and the next....one day at a time. There are a couple of years that I barely remember, but I managed to hold on and today things are much better and I feel a little more like myself.

Are you on anything besides Plaquenil? Most doctors will start you on some kind of anti-inflammatory right away (usually prednisone) to help get rid of the inflammation that is likely causing the pain. Please don't hesitate to take the prednisone -- it's about the only thing that "gets ahead of" the pain, and then milder medications can be used to keep inflammation from ever getting that bad again.

Hang in there, it can get better!

I am on Mobic, Tramadol and Plaquenil roght now. But none of it seems to take away my pain! That is what is so frustrating to me. Should I ask for a stronger pain medication? My fear is that it will knock me out and I won't be able to function. I just want relief! I tried heat but it made things worse! Ice? I don't know anymore!

I would ask for a stronger pain medication. I was hesitant at first too, and started by just taking half a pill (Vicodin for me). I try to save it for when I'm at the end of my rope and just need some relief - it's nice to know it's there when I need it.

My inflammation has gotten the better of me also. We are all in the same boat. I'm on sulindac, ended predisone this week had a dose of tordadol last week, and now on plaquenil today. It's like every anti-inflammatory under the sun and nothing has taken effect yet. I'll write back when it does.

I went for a massage and I was so stiff that it was hard for the person to even give me a massage. LOL.
