I recently went to my allergist with an odd red rash on my face, upper chest, and arms. He decided to do bloodwork and one test is to check my ANA.
Curious, I started searching what this test was for....

These are my symptoms that I recently started putting together that has affected me the past three years:
Allergic to almost all antibiotics (6 out of the 7 classes)
Leg edema for close to two years (If I don't take my lasix twice a day my weight will bloom up 10 lbs in two days)
Four UTI in the last two years (Have had spells of not being able to pee first hour of the morning. Kind of like a lock down?)
Fatigue all the time
Achy joints (today my elbows, back, and knees)
faint red rash on my face and arms that appears in the mornings and disappears by bedtime (sometimes itches)
Hypothyroidism
slightly enlarged lower left side of heart
Facial edema in the morning
sleep apnea
I had GERD surgery a year ago
I have a low body temperture (97.2), but sometimes it runs up to 98.9.
I get brain fog and sometimes attacks of aphasia.

Does any of this sound familar?

Hi there Couch :) I have not been diagnosed with Lupus but I am seeing a new Rheumy tomorrow to try to get to the bottom of my issues. I just wanted to say that when I found out that I have a positive ANA I sort of freaked. I didn't know what it means but the more I researched the less it scared me. Many people have a positive ANA but have nothing wrong with them. It's just a piece of a puzzle to a larger picture. I'm not saying that there is nothing wrong with you because obviously you are having issues and you know your own body. You know something isn't right.

I've been researching Lupus for the past few weeks and one thing I found out is that not everyone will have the same symptoms. There are tell tale signs for sure but it can be pretty obscure at the same time. I went to a Rheumy a few years ago (when I had my positive ANA test) and I left feeling very angry and confused. The doc was a jerk and blamed everything on my Ulcerative colitis. But things have developed over the past few years that it is looking more and more like Lupus hence the new Rheumy visit.

I just wanted to say that I hope that your ANA comes out negative and that there is nothing seriously wrong with you but I know at the same time what it's like to wish something would show up just so you can put a name to what ails you. When will you get the results of your blood test?

I find out in two weeks on the 30th. My rash is really bad today on my face and my knees and elbows are achy. This is frustrating.>:(

I understand Joy, oh boy do I! I went out last night for my husbands birthday, had a couple of drinks and my skin did not like it at all. My nose got real red as well as under my nose - derm says I have Rosacea. I still look like Rudolph! Usually when it happens though it doesn't hurt, maybe burns a bit but that's it. We have a weather front coming it and I found out that the barometric pressure does a number on my joints. I hope you find your answers soon!

Thanks Amy, no offense but I hope that I don't have to start posting in here! :) But I will find out more tomorrow when I see my doc.
