Hi, I was given a Steroid shot by my Rhuemy Dr. last week for left side pain that I've had for a years now off and on but this pain was very differant from before. Pain started 2/1/11, on left side of my torso then spread down to foot, w/in a few days, I couldnt get up or walk, when I did try because I could'nt stand just laying there, my hip/leg felt soo heavy and was very painfull. The worse pain I've ever had on left side.
I felt like I needed a cane, but I would walk and my leg just couldnt lift up, but I made myself do it. pain last all month until last week of Febuary, it subsided and I seen my Dr., I asked him if this was from the Fibromyalgia, he said "no", he gave me the shot, but it did not help at all, felt the same.
Dr. said it was for the inflamation.
Has anyone had a Steroid shot and what did it do for you?

Sorry about your experince. I have never had a shot of steriod but I have many friends who have and they love them! They said they would marry them if possible, that is how much of a difference it makes for them. what you describe is something to deffinatly be something to keep questioning your doctor. If the steriod shot didnt work, (i am no doctor) but I would assume the pain is not coming from inflammation! Could possibly be another cause???

Have you tried any muscle relaxers?

Yes, I've been on Baclofen 10mg, 3xs daily, but only take 2xs daily, I tried 3xs daily for a few days felt lke couldnt concentrate. for about two years.
Also, taking Tramadol when needed for bad pain only, eventhough my pain is sometimes really bad, I wont take the Tramadol, I feel buzzed and it makes my scalp real itchy w?in an hour of taking it. I've told my Dr. about that, he says well I've given you all medicines I can give you.
I have used Gabapentin, last year, but it didn't help at all for my muscle pains. Dr. took me off that.
I was hoping the Steroid shot would help but pain was still there. now I'm getting random pain points on my left leg, they're jolts of pain too.

I see my Rhuemy Dr. in May, I don't know what it may happening with my left side of my body.
Today, I felt like I was walking kinda funny, had a hard time lifting my leg as I was walking.
I will let you all know what happens at my next Dr. visit.

I get regular steroid shots but into my scalp for hair loss. I usually get about 20 shots (5-10mg) total to make the hair start growing again. I don't really feel any side effects though...
