Hello everyone.. I'm new here I mostly hang around the colitis forum but it seems like I'm gonna be here as well. I don't really understand a lot about lupus and how its diagnosed all I know is my rheumy said a number was very high and I might have lupus. I was put on meds and had to do another blood screening. I'm still waiting for results on that. I thought life was bad with my ulcerative colitis but it went from bad to worse. Almost every joint in my body gets inflamed at all random times. Sometimes a new joint that didn't bother me all day will flare up in a matter of minutes. That is really the only symptom I seem to have at the moment. How likely is it to have a false positive? I hope that's the case. I am set to start remicade this comming week and I was wondering if that would also help with lupus since they are both autoimmune? I did hear that remicade can cause lupus symptoms but I hope that's not the case here. If anyone had any sucess with remicade please let me know. My rheumy knows that I'm starting the remicade but he didn't say much about it. Anyway I was just looking for some info about this disease and hoping some of you could explain to me what I might have coming to me.

Hi superdoo,

I'm not sure what test they did so I can only assume its the ANA test. I don't know how often it comes up or if it does in UC. I know a lot of symptoms can overlap, I actually had a colitis episode from my lupus but its now healed.

Lupus is a very complex disease. No two people will have the exact same course of it. There are 11 criteria and you need 4 to diagnose (if you go to the Lupus main menu forum area and look under resources you can see (I can see if I can find it to link it). Even then its tricky because I believe you have to have all 4 at the same time or evidence and they cannot be caused by other things. A good source of the different symptoms and treatments is lupus.org. It explains how each symptom can effect the different parts of the body. Browsing the forum here also can give you a sense of how things can be.

Keep in mind though that lupus can be very mild for one person and the opposite for another.

Thank you for the reply and the info.. I hope its just something else since I only have the joint problem... I am always tired but that is also a symptom of the UC .. maybe this will all go away with the remicade... maybe it was an ANA test I'm not too sure my rhemy said its a sign of lupus and he needed to do more tests to be sure
