i'm having severe lower left abdomnal and left flank plank. I just finished a dose of antibiotics three days ago due to a kidney infection. Pressing on the area and movement causes increased pain. In the past month and a half I have been in the hospital 3x b/c of the kidney infection and gastrointeritis. I'm at the end of my rope with lupus and I'm not sure what I need to do at this point. Should I return to the er or wait it out?

I'd go back to the ER. Better safe than sorry.

Hi! and welcome,
I am glad you found us, and hope you feel better soon. I agree with Joy, and perhaps the dr. could refer you to a kidney specialist, (nephrologist) asap? Remember to drink lots of water, and you probably have seen a dozen different doctors by now. Could you pick the one you like the most, compile ALL your records, build an illness time line, and then see her/him often until you get this infection under control. Underlying lupus makes fighting any infection tough. EDs are great for emergencies, but the drs. there see the urgent short tern issue, i.e. evidence of kidney infection? throw 5 days of antibiotic at it and maybe it, (and the patient) will go/stay away.... shakehead I am so sorry you feel so discouraged. I am just coming out of a 3 week flare and my dr. suggested my acute trouble breathing is heartburn.
take care and keep us posted,
hugs, suetoo

God knows, even if I don't....

Hey! I would have to agree Sue. Call your doctor. Also, sometimes emergency rooms have a call before you come to see if they think you need to come to the ER or if it can wait till the morning for your doctor. Maybe you can look up your local ER and see if they have such a service available.

If you are still having pain from a kidney infection, it obvioulsy has not cleared up and you need another round of antibiotics to help get infection cleared up. If not treated properly, a kidney infection can permanently damage your kidneys or spread to your bloodstream and can cause a life-threatenin infection. If you have chronic infections, you will probably be referred to a urologist to figure out why they have become chronic!!!

Please don't take this lightly and let us know what the doc says

I agree with Amy -- she is unfortunately quite experienced with kidney issues. Hope you are better soon.

Hi there,
I agree with all the previous posts. Go to the ER or if you can stand to wait to business hours to see your Doctor - do so. Also, with Lupus you do tend to have a food allergy and if you are not tested for it - you would not know.
Keep a daily log of the foods that you eat because you may be having a reaction to it.
I've learned that the hard way. I truly hope you are feeling better by now!

This is a great forum of support!
