So, I also got a UTI and it caused a horrible flare. Does this happen to anyone else? They are trying just to keep me on plaquenil and not anything stronger but I dunno....... Is it possible to take methotrexate without many side effects? I am looking for a new job and I need better health and more energy.

When I had any type of infection including UTI, my lupus would flare up. I end up taking antibiotics and to control the lupus double the dosage of prednisone. Methotrexate didn't work for me. My susceptibility to infection increased and I ended up getting pneumonia, the severe kind. I am on 7 mg prednisone, 200 mg plaquenil twice daily, colchicine 0.6 mg, and Benlysta. Btw since I started taking cranberry extract 3 tabs a day I haven't had UTI for some time now.

My UTI caused me to go into and emotional flare. I became very teary and grouchy with others. I was so tired I had to just avoid everything for two days and focus on me.

I got tested today again for UTI after one month. If positive again I guess I'll have to take an antibiotic. What are they prescribing nowadays for this. I never had one before. Doc will have results by Thursday. I tried cranberry extract 500mg bid for one month.

I think they like to use sulfa if you are not allergic. Sometimes they use cipro. They gave me nitrofuran.
