I haven't been on in quite some time, but would like some advice. Earlier this year my daughter was diagnosed with MCTD. The doctor told her she had a weak positive for her anti-RNP indicating MCTD. She started on Plaquenil and seems to be doing better. She recently moved and changed Rheumatologists. Her new doctor said he doesn't like Plaquenil, but first wanted to do bloodtests. All of her bloodwork came back normal and the doctor suggested she take Fish Oil and stop the Plaquenil. I have encouraged her to stay on Plaquenil, but add the Fish Oil. Can the Plaquenil make the anti-RNP normal?

I don't think so, but a good rheumy should recognize that titres come and go as does the disease activity of AutoImmune diseases. I am pretty sure that plaquenil has a good reputation and drs. know they shouldn't diagnose or UNdiagnose anything based on one normal or abnormal lab report. Fish Oil has alot of good studies to back up it's benefit. I know she just found a rheumy, but is there any chance she could get a second opinion before she stops the plaquenil? If she were my daughter, I'd try and find a rheumy affiliated with a big teaching university with a big rheumatology department.

God knows, even if I don't....
