Hi All,
I looked up what's been happening to me for the past few days.....started with "bolts of lightening flashes," and then, "spider floaters."  I DID read, on one site, that autoimmune disease CAN cause these.  The ER doctor said Lupus can do strange things to a body.  I have an appt. with a retina specialist on Tuesday morning to make sure it's not anything "sight-threatening."  Has anyone else had this?  My eye is also blurry. Only one eye is affected..my right.
The doctor actually called me back today!  She told me not to do too much bending..but....when you are packing for a 3 week trip....how do you do that standing straight up!!?  Forget about my husband packing!  He can't even remember to pack HIS things, let alone mine!  He puts three things in a suitcase and he has no room left for anything else!  He simply is not a packer.  I do most of the technical stuff around the house as well.   Lupus really kicked my butt when it hit!  He's very good at opening jars, driving the car, and being quiet in the morning so I can sleep in. That's about it!!   LOL!

Can you place the suitcases mid-chest level and have hubby do the bending over?
You can tell him what to get for you and you put it in the case.

My left eye is blurry too. I'm thinking I've got dry eyes.

They were on the bed...but you still have to bend. I'm better off when he's not in my way. It was the cosmetics and toiletries today and he couldn't help. My doctor recommended Genteel eye drops (or CVS compatible brand). I use them a few times a day...they are very gentle. Just had a bad accident....had ear drops on the table next to my eye drops. Guess what I put in my bad eyes? Yep! I flushed them out for 20 minutes and had to put ice on as the right one swelled up. I'm better now...just see the spider in the right eye!

OOPS!
That's as bad as the guy who went to the bathroom in the middle of the night. His wife herd him crying in the bathroom. She knocked on the door and asked what's wrong. He bawled back, "You left the muscle rub next to the hemoroid cream!" smilewinkgrin yeah

Those symptoms can be a sign of a retinal detachment.  I had one in 2005.  The usual symptoms are flashes, floaters, and loss of some vision.  Seeing the retinal specialist is a good idea.  Try not to worry though, b/c it may not be that.

Hi all,

I haven't posted in ages, but this one hit home. I just saw a retina specialist on Wednesday because I have been on Plaquenil for about 20 years and my Rheumy said there is a new test that has been out for about 2-3 months. Well, what my regular eye doctor, who knows I am on Plaquenil wrote off as blurry eyes due to dryness actually is retina damage from the medication. My rheumy stopped the drug immediately and I will follow up with the retina specialist every 3 months. I am not diagnosed with lupus as I have never had a positive ana, but am diagnosed with vasculitis, which the retina specialist said could be the cause of the retina changes, but really suspects the long term use of Plaquenil.

Just wanted those of you on the drug to be aware that there is a new test for those of us on the drug, and not just any eye doctor does it. I don't remember the name, but am sure your Rheumies will know and can help you find someone who does it.

A new test? Retina damage? Oh, dear, I will certainly be talking with my eye Dr about this!
