It has been ages since I've been here. Every now and then I pop in and read some of the posts, but haven't posted in a year or two.

How is everyone? I touch base with Hippimom who's enjoying a very happy home life, but whose health has deteriorated. Rosie and I talk on a knitting site and she appears to be in good health. I've also talked to Barb, and just hate what she's been going through. I know you are updated on her health.

My labs are now normal. Hallelujah! My fibro has ramped up to the point that it's hard to get out of bed, but with the help of my new terrific rheumy, I'm doing well. I've been doing yoga twice a week and it has helped more than anything I've done. Getting more exercise and eating with less gluten and more veggies, cutting out sugar and white flour has helped. It's easier to do these things when you feel better. Catch-22.

Let me know how you are all doing. I'll try not to stay away for so long.

Hey Patty!!

I'm glad to hear that yoga is helping you. I was thinking of starting yoga since I had to stop training for the half marathon. I just haven't been able to get motivated these days. Achy and soooo tired lately.

I was thinking yoga and pilates, though. Maybe some swimming at my gym. Hopefully, I'll get moving again soon.

There is more and more evidence that practicing yoga can be very beneficial to people with autoimmune disease, including lupus. But like anything, finding just the right teacher is key.

Also physical therapy (especially pool therapy) is great during a fibro flare up. Patty, I too suffer from fibromyalgia and during an attack can barely get out of bed. I respond well to pool therapy, the trick though is to not over do it.

An horrid example of over doing it during pool therapy: Your doing great and all, then in the deep end of the swimming pool you lose complete function of not one, but both legs. Luckly, I happen to be a great swimmer, with lifeguard training. I alerted the staff of the issue of not being able to move my legs. Swam to the shallow end to the stairs with railing and tried to "stand" but landed on my butt back in the pool LOL.... It took 3 people to lift me and put me in a wheelchair they had at the clinic. I had to actually go to my folks house because I couldnt even go take a shower on my own. They kept me for a week, in a wheel chair and walker til I could take care of myself again.. To make this even more worse.... I'm only 30 (most of the group will call me a youngin now hehe). That was the last time I didn't listen to the therapist about "your gonna overdo it if you keep it up". From there on, if he stated I would over do it, I stopped.

That is a scary story, Smurfy. I also have fibro and have trouble getting out of bed some mornings, but have never become completely incapacitated like you did. I agree that the secret with both fibro and lupus is to not over-do it. sounds like you have a good therapist. My yoga teacher asks me before every session how I'm feeling and tailors my class to that, even though she has a good sense of what we should do that day. If I'm particularly weak, I get to enjoy the Savasana, or meditation portion longer. I always feel so much better when the class is over.

Hi Patty,

I'm like you, missing everyone too, nice to see your post and everyone here (hope you don't mind me tagging on it) :) I don't come on much. I don't use the computer much, not much time or energy. When I do have energy, I try and do other things but I really miss you guys! So good to connect again. I hope you are all doing good.

Hugs, Des
