My in-laws, who are wonderful by the way, have decided to get a cabin in the smokeys for Christmas and want us to go too. Sounds great, right? Well, I'm scared to death!

First of all, with my celiac I have to do quite a bit of planning and packing just so I can eat. Then there's the motion sickness thing, which no amt of dramamine or meclizine can prevent me from ending up on the side of the road vomiting. Not to mention that when I travel anywhere it sends me into a drastic flare. I always end up miserable, my daughter worried to death, my husband angry and hurt that I did this to him, and my son...well nothing seems to ruffled his feathers.

See my dilemma? If I decline the invitation, I cheat my kids and husband. If I go I cheat everyone because it ends up being all about me being sick. My husband will not go without me. No matter what I do, I'm the bad guy.

Then there's the fact that we haven't had our own christmas, just the 4 of us, since 2003! Am I being selfish?

Can you politely decline the in-laws invite? If they press the issue explain that you don't travel well and you really want a "Family" Christmas at home this year.

Just need to talk to my husband and let him know how I feel. And my mother in law is very easy to talk to. I just hate being the stick in the mud all the time!
