The joys of being a caregiver means you either know the problem and diagnoses before the doctor or you know where to research it.

This problem is getting worse, doctors don't know what is going on except I have swollen lymph nodes per CT Scan. I double over in very acute pain grabbing my right side. CT shows its not my gall bladder or appendix but the lymph nodes are swollen. The pain is so severe where I have to take morphine and bentyl.  Being the curious monkey I am, I I looked up bentyl as I don't have a patient on it so not familar with it. Bentyl shows its a medication for IBS (Irratital Bowel Syndrome), yet the only symptom I have is the severe pain in my stomach.

Now, recently I learned both of my grandmothers have fat intolerance (intolerance to fattty foods).  So I'm just venting and asking for ideas  and questions to ask because I'm stumped, and all the doctors know is my lymph nopes are swollen.

Swollen lymph nodes are usually signs of infection, but how can a person be "infected" for months on end? I also know it can mean lymph node cancer, but since I'm already in chemotherapy and have routine MRI's and bloodwork, I can safetly gather I more than likely don't have that form of cancer.

Hello. I am so sorry that you are in so much pain and for so long. A couple of years ago I experienced something similar. After several tests, it was determined that I was experiencing Lupus Pancreatitis. Lasted for months and was extremely painful. If I remember correctly, I was treated with steroids and antibiotics. You have probably already been checked for this, but maybe not. Hope this helps. And I hope you feel better, soon.
Take care, Fran

Fran,
I actually haven't been tested for that. I have Wegener's and it is treated the same as Lupus. I do have an appointment with my Endo next week, so I will see if he can run some bloodwork. It is blood work I need, correct?

Sorry, just saw your question. My bloodwork showed amylase (sp?) was off. They did run a few other tests but the bloodwork seemed to be the deciding factor in the diagnosis. Hope you are feeling better.

Hope you feel better Smurfy. I know the pain of having swollen lymph nodes. It feels like someone has cut you open, stuffed a golf ball in your side and then sewed you up (graphic but thats how it feels). Both my Rhuemy and PC have told me that my swollen lymphs are caused by lupus I wonder if thats your case.
