Just FYI, I have been fighting a cold or something along those lines for 9 days now. Still getting feverish from time to time, and now my ears are plugged up. Blah!

Been toying with the idea of taking a couple mg of prednisone (been off it almost a year), but that would probably just hide whatever it is and I should proceed straight to the dr, huh?

I hate being sick (on top of being sick)....and it gets boring as well!

Yes, straight to doctors for you. 9 days is too long especially if you are feverish off and on. Let your doctor decide if prednisone sense you have been off it for so long. Maybe you need an antibiotic to help get you better and prednisone might make it worse being a immunosuppresant!

Are you taking it easy these last few days? I sure hope you call an make an appointment tomorrow first thing!!! Feel better soon.

Yes, to the doctor!

My painkillers were masking my kidney infection. I probably would still have it if I hadn't had my bloodwork done.

Well, feverish in my terms, not necessarily in Dr terms. My usual temp is 96.8, oddly low. An hour of exercise can often push it up to normal (98.6) for a couple of hours.

The last few days it's been up to 98.5 several times without exercise being involved.

But no matter what, doc don't count it till it's over 100, and that isn't happening! I just wanted to whine!

I think you're right about the docs not counting it a fever until it's 100 or above.  My temp starts out in the low 97's, sometimes dips into the 96's - but more often than not, it starts spiking up into the 99's in the afternoons, usually with some activity like chores, or cooking dinner.

But- it also at times climbs up even if I'm sitting still and reading, and other times exercise/activity doesn't seem to affect it at all, and I never get up to 98.6.  Rheumy dismissed it as a conditioning issue - but it doesn't seem to correlate with activity.  I do feel "feverish" if it's 99.5 or above, and I consider it a bit of a flare warning if it doesn't come back down into the 98's by bedtime.

A mystery - one I've considered posting about.....

At any rate,  I would agree seeing the doc might be worthwhile at this point.  Hope you feel better soon!

I to run in the middle 96's usually for my temp. But my doctors do put that in consideration when I say I have a fever. I wonder why yours don't? hmmm?

How are you today? Have you called your doctor and made an appointment yet?

Lynnwood,

I went to the pcp's last week for sinus/throat infection and got my round of antibiotics. They ran out this Thursday morning. Today, I woke up with the same symptoms as I had that last Wednesday. I almost called the doctor to let him know that I needed another round when I came upon your post about taking the prednisone. I, too, take prednisone and I notice sometimes symptoms will creep up as the dosage goes down. So, I raised the prednisone dosage back up a bit. Within an hour the symptoms let up (didn't go away, just let up some). So, maybe the symptoms are not sinus related but RA/Sjogrens related and the upped dose of prednisone helped. I am going to give it a go for a week and then taper back down again and see what that brings me.

Anyway, I would still suggest talking to the doctor on Monday if the prednisone does not help. As I am going to, if indeed, the prednisone is not the answer.

Heres hoping the pred will help and you will be up on your feet in time to enjoy the weekend.

take care,
Denita

Isn't it weird how we all have the low body temperture? I'm usually hovering between 96.8 and 97.1.
During my kidney infection I got up to 98.8.

It is weird that we all have low body temp -- mine has been low for over 30 yrs, so it's not a side-effect of Lupus as I've only had it since 2000 or so.

Cold (well, 50's) and rainy here tonight -- would rather not be sniffy.
Thanks

18 days and counting...this cold hangs on! No more temps, but mostly okay 1 or 2 days (except for tiredness), then head and throat terribly contested for a couple days, then back around....

My attitude is getting BAD and I was want to RAGE at everyone around me for the simplest stupid things that don't normally even register!

This too shall pass.....just wish my patience would come back soon!

So sorry you are still dealing with this. It's bad enough having the "normal" lupus problems, but to deal with the sinus issues on top of that would be awful. It would test anyone's patience. Hope you get some relief, soon.
Take care, Fran

Hi!
Our family, town and school is FILLED with people who have this URI/head congestionn/sinus infection and very nasty long lasting bug. Dr. gave me augmentin after z pack wasn't enough. My rheumy told me when I get this sick is when I need the most prednisone, and suggested the 40mg/for a week, then 30mg etc. dose. And it's not influenza, oh joy. My husband has it now, and if he keeps whining so much, I may be forced to....well, let me just say there won't be witnesses.
God knows, even if I don't....

Hey Lynnwood. I've been troubled with "cold like" symptoms for several days. BF says a few at work are complaining of the same. I hope your antibiotics help. Love ya! Donna

Hey Lynwood,

The last time I got a cold, it hung on for almost a month!  The cellcept, I guess.  I think that all the lupus meds not only make us more susceptible to colds, but they interfere or slow our ability to fight the infection.  Not that I'm a doctor!  LOL.  Just personal observations.  I had the same problem on methotrexate.

I hope you feel better soon!

Hugs,
Brandi

PS - I have that low body temp thing, too.  Have you had your thyroid tested recently?  Also, do you ever experience night sweats?  Low body temp plus night sweats could indicate a menopausal thing (not that I know your age).  Other things to add to the list: hypoglycemia, kidney disease, and infection can also cause it to be low.
dx: SLE 07/2011, OCD 2006, osteoarthritis 2002
rx: CellCept 2,000mg/day, NSAID for pain, zoloft 200 mg

My temp has been low like that for over 30 years, and it isn't connected to anything else. Thanks.

My father's temp is low like mine. So I assume it runs in the family.

I've caught the coughing and runny nose stuff now. :(
