I have been referred to a rheumy by my Dermatologist after having a rash that they think may be indicative of Lupus. I have had two biopsies and though they weren't conclusive, they suspect Lupus. I have had some symptoms off and on for all my life but have never really felt sick. I am trying to prepare myself if it is what they suspect. I still hold out hope that this rash is something else.

I would love to get the opinions of those familiar with Lupus.

I have had sunlight sensitivity all my life both in my eyesight and skin. I can attribute my eye sensitivity to childhood eye maladies. I have had Reynaud's phenomenon at least 11 years ( the age of my middle daughter and when I first noticed it). I have had quite a bit of hair loss beginning after the birth of my last child, three years ago.

And now this rash. I had a pregnancy related rash with my last child and was told it was the worst the Dr's had ever seen. I tend to react very strongly. I have allergies to fragrance and get contact dermatitis on my face frequently.

My rash is not a mylar rash, but more of a lesion-type rash occurring on my chest, back, legs and now my face as well. My blood work shows my ANA as being quite high at 1:2300 up from 1:160 in 2007.

My daughter has JRA.

So, the odds are pretty much against me, right? cry

Thanks for your input in advance.

I wonder if it's Discous Lupus? The rheumy will be able to tell you positively if it's lupus or not. Your symptoms do sound like the lupus symptoms, but then lupus acts like other diseases too.

I am sun sensitive with my eyes and skin. I don't go outside in the sun without SPF 100 sunscreen and sun protective clothing. Even then I'm not out there very long.
My rash is not mylar, my whole face turns brick red. I have dermographia (skin writing).

Thanks Joy. I am unsure why, but my Derm said specifically SLE when she spoke to me versus Discoid which makes me wonder why she assumes it.

I am sorry you are dealing with this.
