Hello everyone,

I am new to this site, so I hope I do this right.

I had an ANA titer + result from some blood work done due to muscle pain, fatigue, numbness in arms and hands, heart "flutters", feeling like my feet are cold all of the time, burning sensation in arm pits and insides of my arms and inner thighs and other areas as well, hair loss, trouble with concentration, red eyes/dry eyes, trouble sleeping .

I was sent to a specialist. He was looking for Lupus and RA, but I just got my test result yesterday from him and all of the blood work that he did came back negative. So, he sent me away with a diagnosis of Fibromyalgia. Does this sound right? Should I just take this as the result and move on or should I get a second opinion. I am almost 50 and I have never been sick, except a common cold once or twice which I recover from easily in a day. I got sick about 2 months ago and I could not get rid of it and I still have mucous in the back of my throat and get a flaming sore throat every that will come on out of no where but then die down after about half a day. I had strep as a child and it feels like that is what I cam getting, but then it dies down. This is just not like me, I am like the energizer bunny and now someone has taken out my batteries????

Please help me figure this out,
thank you,

Lynnwood

Did you see a rheumotologist? Have you read over the "4 of 11" symptoms that generally indicate lupus?

Some drs think that Lupus is only diagnosed by blood tests, but blood tests are *not definitive* with lupus. Other drs agree with the College of Rheumotology and the Lupus Organization and diagnose and/or treat by way of symptoms instead of trying to rely on a blood test.

I would suggest a second opinion from a rheumy -- check www.lupus.org to find a chapter in your area. Then check with the local chapter and see which drs are active on the board of directors -- these are the docs you want to see!

Hope you feel better soon,

Thank you very much. Yes, it was a Rheumotologist that I saw for the second round of blood work and he was the one that said it wasn't lupus because of my blood test result. I will check out the "4 of 11". I think I did that already when I got the ANA titer +result and I fit that category, but I will check again. Thanks again for your help.

Hello.....My husband is having the same problem. Never been sick but had complained that his feet were numb and I noticed he had trouble getting up and down/walking etc. I made him a Dr. appt. Fam. Pract./ diagnosed with severly low B12/....started shots. Referred him to Neurologist/diagnosed with perephrial neuropathy in legs/feet and mild in his arms/blood showed positive ANA for Lupus homogenous . Oct he started having problems with diarrhea/ weight loss...had colonoscopy (negative). December/started running low grade fever two or three weeks, severe fatigue, lost appetite, severely red rash both palms of this hands, both eyes were blood shot/ Opthamologist diagnosed vascilitus. Lost 14 lbs in 2 mths. Both feet would swell in the afternoon. Went back to the Fam. Prac. for follow up and more bloodwork to see how the B12 was coming back up/ better but still low/ Positive ANA again for Lupus. Recommended we see a Rheumatologist....but had a time getting an appointment. By the time we did the symptoms had all but gone away. Took 2 mths to get an appointment. The Rheumatologist ran a battery of blood tests.....Positive ANA....all other antibody test came back negative. He says he could not diagnose Lupus with just a positive ANA!!! He says the other blood indicators should show positive. He thinks he just had a bacterial infection.

I'm at my wits end....everything I have read online concerning lupus indicates he must have something going on.

gajustice, You need to get him to a different Rhuemy.
My ANA was the only positive I had, but I had 6 of the 11 symptoms. He said I had Moderate SLE.

May I assume by your ID that you're from GA? If you live near the Gainesville area Northeast Georgia Diagnostics Clinic (don't have any finacial connections) has some great Rhuematologists.

Thanks....Joy, yes I am from south GA.....but have another home in northeast GA not far from Gainesville.  My gut instinct is the same....something just isn't right.  If you have a recommendation, please let me know.  The Rheumy I saw...was arrogant, did not seem to listen to any of the things we were telling him.

Thanks

Try Dr. Alok Sachdeva, He's mine and a wonderful doctor. He's a great listener, too.
