I apologize if I should have continued with my original post..was not sure.. My doctor called today and said the 2nd test she did (Comprehensive ANA) was negative and she has repeated the original ANA and asked for a range this time. First result was Positive/abnormal with no range. So, does the negative Comprehensive rule out other autoimmune disorders but not Lupus? All so confusing...thanks for your help. Not sure where to go from here... D

The only thing that showed up on my ANA was positive speckled with 1:320 titers. Everything else was normal on my comprehensive. My doctor told me moderate SLE.

The range will help her be sure of her diagnosis.

Thank you Joy. From what I understand anything over 1:320 is positive but not necessarily just for Lupus. Or is the latter part incorrect. Thanks for your help.

Anything over 1:40 is positive for autoimmune diseases.
It goes like this:
1:40-weak positive
1:80-weak positive
1:160
1:320
1:640
and double it everytime after that.

The pattern determines the type of autoimmune disease.
Go to Lupus.org and search for the pattern types for a more detail description of the patterns.

I understand now why she wants the range. Thank you for your help!
