Just found out I have some strange kind of UTI. I didn't even have any symptoms. It is a bacteria called Klebsia pneumoniae and it usually causes pneumonia or UTI. Most people would never get it. You only get it if your immune system is weakened. Usually if you are in the hospital, which I am not.

I have to take antibiotics for two weeks.

Has anyone else ever had this or heard of it?

Thanks,
Mary Ann

I've never heard of it! Is it related to Lupus at all?

Lynwood,

I don't think it is related to Lupus but it is related to having a weakened immune system. When I looked it up it said that normal healthy people would never get it. Only if your immune system is already weakened by something else.

Weird....Leave it to me to get something unusual. :-)

Hi Nanabee. Back in my other life as a microbiologist I saw Klebsiella pneumoniae fairly often, but I worked in hospital labs. I say this cause it's fairly uncommon outside of a hospital setting. It can be hard to treat so be sure to take all of your antibiotics. On a side note, I've had several UTIs without symptoms.  Lupus is so full of surprises. Love ya, Butterflake aka Donna

Thanks, Butterflake. I can't for the life of me figure out how I got this. I haven't even been to the hospital. Oh well, hopefully it will respond to the antibiotics and get better.

Mary Ann :-)
