Was just wondering if any of you were on wellbutrin before you had your first lupus flare?I have read that sometimes it will bring it on.I was on it,then about 3 months later...inflammation in the blood,etc,etc...then I went down.I do have a family history of lupus but doc says it may have spurred it on.any feedback?

I think that is silly -- nobody really knows what causes Lupus -- if they did it'd be a HUGE news item. I started Wellbutrin within a few months of diagnosis but don't believe it had any affect on my Lupus.

There is an autoimmune reaction that can look like SLE called drug-induced lupus erythematosus (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drug-induced_lupus_erythematosus). Wellbutrin isn't one of the drugs listed as having a high-risk for this sort of reaction. With drug-induced lupus, the symptoms tend to go away when the offending drug is stopped, though.

Don't poo poo that theory so fast. Lupus Cause is unknown, in other words, who carries it dormant. BUT there are many theories as to why it manifests in some and not in others. My brother is a carrier, but never flared. I am Systemic and I was on Welbutrin and I have PCOS which is a Hormone imbalance, which is one theory of why Lupus Manifests. There are a lot of factors here. No one know how or why, but they could all be contributing factors.
