Hey all

I have been flaring sort of since the beginning of April. It started with lower back pain (which I have NEVER had) that referred down my legs. about 10 days ago, I was getting a massage, and my therapist said my nerves were inflamed. She said, "I bet you're flaring." Oddly enough, that was the first I'd thought of it. I only flare once or twice a year, so sometimes I forget about it as a possibility.

This weekend, though, it hit hard. I can hardly use my right thumb from so much pain and swelling. Today was even worse. I couldn't even twist my ring on my finger because they were so swollen.

I hurt everywhere. I'm totally exhausted. I crawled in bed at 630, hoping to go right to sleep, but it's 11 now, and I haven't slept a wink. (That's why I'm on here!) I basically spent 3 hours moving 2 ice packs from various parts of my body to others. My doc called in a Prednisone taper for me today, but I'm still waiting for it to kick in. My pharmacist told me no ibuprofen with Pred. (I have been taking ibu like candy lately. Duh, I'm in flare! I should have known!) Now I have a headache from not sleeping, but not sure if I can take Excedrin.

I put Biofreeze (like IcyHot) on every inch of my skin from my back down, and my hand. Now, I think the smell combined with the headache and/or the drugs kind of makes me want to puke.

I have to work 10 hour days for the next 10 days. It will be crazy! After that, though, I can rest a lot. Trying to figure out how to make it through the next week.

I guess I'm sort of venting/looking for encouragement/can't sleep so I'm posting.

Praying. Trying to rely on Jesus. Hoping sleep or drugs kick in soon, or the rapture happens... whichever comes first :)

Sorry for the long post. Lemme know if you have any encouragement. It's always nice to know I'm not in this alone. Thanks, all!

Hi Pluslouie. Prednisone gives most of us insomnia. I always try to prepare myself with magazines, books or movies when starting a taper ‘cause I know I’ll be wide awake. I sure hope you get some relief soon. Thank God I’m on disability now, but I used to work a high power demanding job and all I could do was work, come home, grab something to eat, take a warm bath with Epsom salts, go to bed and repeat. Washed my hair once a week and looked as badly as I felt, but hey, that’s lupus. I’m sending you hugs and lots of positive energy. Love, Butterflake

Sounds like couchtater time! :))
I hate flaring! It's funny how we deny it when we start flaring until it's unbearable.
