Hi everyone. I am new to this board.
Been sick off and on for several years and I've seen an allergist, neurologist, gastro doc, etc.
for random symptoms that would pop up. I got really sick march 19th, (13 weeks ago or so) felt like
I woke up in someone else's body. Pain in my joints that soon hit my muscles, complete fatique, non-stop headaches and just sick.
After a few weeks of here and there to the doc, hospital, labs and finally to a "Rheumy", she started me on a treatment for Lupus and Fibromyalgia.
My hands and elbows burn and ache every single day, like fire. I'm on Plaquenil, Gabapentin, Cataflam and the occasional anxiety pill if it's all too much to manage mentally. My feet and legs swell up if I'm on them and I'm exhausted.
It's been approx. 13 weeks and I don't feel much better at all except the flu feeling has passed.

I joined because I don't feel as alone as I've felt the past few weeks, after finding this board and reading the love and support that is so freely shared here. :)

QUESTION: I'm curious how many of you have the sensation of burning hands and elbows. Does it pass when the flare passes?
I'm also having the feeling of mosquito bites all over my arms. That new sensation is random and I haven't heard back from my Dr. yet about why that is happening. It's more of an annoyance than anything. The burning is painful, though.

Thank you for anything you can share with me. I am a very active person and I feel like I've been stopped in my tracks. I find it hard to work and I'm scared my hair business will crumble...
I apologize if I'm asking a question that's been posted before, maybe I needed to dig a little deeper :) Hugs

I have spells of stinging hands, but then I have raynauds.
I have had feeling like something biting me randomly all over my body. That's usually from sunshine exposure.

Wow! My heart goes out to you, Sarasota Girl. I have not had the burning hands or elbows nor the sensation of mosquito bites. The other things you mentioned I have experienced.

My advice would be to get a doctor to try and figure them out and see if any medications or therapies could help relieve them. I would also recommend checking into yoga, meditation, and mindfulness breathing to help MANAGE the pain, burning, and bite sensations. Those techniques have helped me deal with 25 years of chronic pain from Lupus, FMS, and OA. Unfortunately, I have not been able to totally get rid of those symptoms.

I am offering up a special prayer for you as I reply to your posting!!

Hum. The stinging and bite feelings could be from neuropathy, which the Gabapentin is supposed to help the pain from, or from a med allergy.

They could also be from the inflammation of active lupus -- I don't see that you are taking any steroidal anti-inflammatory meds. The Cataflam is Non-steroidal, ie not as strong as something like prednsione would be.

After 13 weeks you should have had a couple of followup appointments and med adjustments based on how you are reacting to the initial medications. (And how you are reacting includes testing inflammation markers, not just your accounting of how you feel.)

I sometimes experience burning, mine I describe as feeling like someone is pouring boiling oil into my hand and foot joints. It generally goes away after a few days of prednisone. However, your overall Lupus needs to be under control before anything quick will help.

Hope you feel better soon,
